The funds will be used to build 10 one-bedroom units to house persons who are physically and/or developmentally disabled with one additional unit for a resident manager. The building is planned to facilitate social interaction between residents through a common space, recreation/socialization area, and outside patio areas. The site is within walking distance of a hospital, grocery, and other shopping. The City of Benton recently received a grant to convert an abandoned railroad bed to a Nature Walking Trail near the proposed apartments which will provide exercise opportunities for residents.

This development will help people maintain independence despite chronic health conditions by providing assessment, monitoring, health education and linkage with appropriate community resources for its residents. Shopping, public transportation services, restaurants, medical services, and churches are located within walking distance from the site.

The funds will be used to purchase an existing group home on a six-acre plot on a 74-acre farm for persons with Traumatic Brain Injuries (TBI). The project houses six men diagnosed with TBI plus an additional unit for a resident manager. This is the only housing of its kind in Kentucky.
