FY 1999 PHDEP Program Project Summary -- ColoradoCOLORADOPUEBLO HA (HOUSING AUTHORITY) -- $198,166 A Teen Center - Empowerment to Say NO to Drugs is a comprehensive, prevention approach to substance abuse/use and educational advancement and employment utilizing national approaches. This project will establish a comprehensive Teen Center with extended nighttime hours. The Housing Authority of the City of Pueblo (HACP) will subcontract with the Boys and Girls Club of Pueblo County (BGCPC) to implement this project with diverse and quality programs and strategies specific to drug elimination for public housing families and their children through the City of Pueblo. The BGCPC project will include three components: Drug Prevention Education, Career/Technology Education and Leadership/Sociocultural and Escosports opportunities. BOULDER CITY HA -- $84,237 The Healthy Communities Initiative is a plan of the Housing Authority of the City of Boulder designed to engage and encourage residents in Federal assisted housing to strategically examine and implement prevention programs to address neighborhood concerns and community issues. PHDEP funding would provide for on-site prevention programs, increase law enforcement support, after school programs and help build resiliency among 113 households or an estimated 375 low-income people at three targeted public housing sites, which include: Kalmia, Iris and Broadway. DENVER HA -- $909,454 The Denver Housing Authority's (DHA) PHDEP Storefront Drug Prevention Family Centers serves eight family row-type developments (Westwood, Sun Valley, North Lincoln, Curtis Park, Quigg Newton, South Lincoln, Westridge and Columbine) and one public housing high-rise (Bean Tower). The Drug Prevention Family Centers integrate community-policing strategies with prevention programs that move residents from welfare to work. In order to accomplish these goals, PHDEP human service programs incorporate employment and training opportunities, one stop Learning Centers, home ownership possibilities, and community forums creased with resident input. Additionally, on-site programs provide positive alternatives to anti-social behaviors, drugs, violence, and gangs. Continual program modification and improvement offer residents successful Youth Leadership Programs, Youth Sports Leagues, Arts as Prevention Programs, and resident retreats.
