1999 PHDEP Program Project Summary -- Nevada
The City of Las Vegas Housing Authority will focus on contracted security personnel, physical improvements and youth sports with limited investment for prevention services. Increased resident involvement will be implemented which will target youth 16-18 years old with positive activities including requirements for parental participation in the educational portion of the activity. This will enhance the communities by reducing violent crime, increasing resident involvement and fostering neighborhood stability.
The Reno Housing Authority will employ a broad weed and seed approach and prevention measures to address problems associated with illegal drug use and drug-related crimes. This will be accomplished through the collaborative prevention, education, cultural, recreational and employment training efforts of the Reno Police Department, Center for Employment Training, Americorps VISTA, University of Nevada, UNR Cooperative Extension, Boy/Girl Scouts/Clubs and many other local organization and businesses.
The Clark County Housing Authority will continue to reduce/eliminate drug-related crime and other violent activity. The Housing Authority will be able to establish on going working relationships with community agencies, resident and law enforcement entities and to increase the quality of life for these resident communities.
The North Las Vegas Housing Authority will educate youth, family and staff through the leveraging of resources in the community to maintain a safe, drug & crime-free neighborhood. Activities include an after-school tutorial; girl/boy scouts; counseling services for individuals, families, groups; a community food bank; Headstart; a summer youth employment program and training and contract security services to patrol grounds.
