1999 PHDEP Program Project Summary -- Oklahoma
McAlester Housing Authority PROJECT SUMMARY: The McAlester Housing Authority will use Drug Elimination funds for the purpose of providing security and drug prevention programs for the residents of the Housing Authority's 274 public housing units. The McAlester Housing Authority will coordinate after-school and summer activities for the kids and serve as positive role models. The activities will include anti- drug, anti-gang, education, and life skills programs as well as field trips and concentrate on the same topics. Adult ecucation programs will be conducted to promote "Welfare to Work".
Lawton Housing Authority PROJECT SUMMARY: The program of the Housing Authority of the City of Lawton, OK will continue to use is a comprehensive security and preventive based approach to attack the problem of drug-related crimes in their public housing developments. The existing programs will be continued and new ones developed through the strong community partnerships that have been developed and continually grow.
Norman Housing Authority PROJECT SUMMARY: Through our proposed grant activities we hope to detour our young people from drugs and gangs by providing positive educational activities through our learning lab. In addition, we proposed to further the education of our residents through educational scholarships and use of the learning center. We see our youth as becoming successful adults in the community and as future homeowners.
Stillwater Housing Authority PROJECT SUMMARY: Through Stillwater's proposed grant activities we hope to detour our young people from drugs and gangs by providing educational activities through our learning lab. Hugo Housing Authority PROJECT SUMMARY: The Housing Authority of the City of Hugo's Drug Elimination Program Plan provides for the continuation of on-site security services, the development and provision of youth, adult and community drug prevention, educational and alternative programs and services. Program emphasis is on the prevention of involvement in crimes by youth and the encouragement of educational successes.
Tulsa Housing Authority PROJECT SUMMARY: The 1999 Public Housing Drug Elimination Grant Program proposal will continue key components of Tulsa Housing Authority's highly successful drug elimination strategies. Existing elements of our comprehensive approach funded by this proposal include maintaining protective services through contracting with a private security contractor and the employment of one full-time Drug Investigator who will engage in prevention, education and intervention activities.
Oklahoma City Housing Authority PROJECT SUMMARY: The Oklahoma City Housing Authority will continue successful drug elimination activities and events that will assistt residents to build stronger communities. This will be accomplished by continuing security measures that make the streets safe; continue support services staffing to increase the quality and quantity of the programs provided to the residents; increase programs available to youth and adults to prevent drug-related crime. Recreation, education, prevention, and treatment programs will be offered to the resident.
Idabel Housing Authority PROJECT SUMMARY: The Idabel Housing Authority is currently implementing Public Housing Drug Elimination Programs and will continue to provide security services at all sites. Programs promoting Educational and Recreational Alternatives to drugs will be offered to the youth and adults of the Housing Authority.
Shawnee Housing Authority PROJECT SUMMARY: The program of the Housing Authority of the City of Shawnee, OK will use a comprehensive law enforcement and prevention based approach to reduce / eliminate drug-related crime. Community police patrols will be used to combat the problem of drug trafficking in all developments for 984 residents. Fencing and lighting will be installed at Dunbar to control foot traffic and increase the safety of the units for the residents. Counseling, youth programs and prevention workshops are offered to increase self-sufficiency and prevent drug-related crime. Computer classes are offered to give residents an opportunity to learn job skills.
Muskogee Housing Authority PROJECT SUMMARY: The Muskogee Housing Authority Public Housing Drug Elimination Program will provide services to residents such as community policing, incentive programs for youth and adult residents, and other programs to eliminate the drug and crime problems in our housing communities. The target sites in the City of Muskogee for services are Port City Acres, Green Country Village, and Honor Heights Towers. In addition, MHA-PHDEP will create a safe environment for residents that promotes self-sufficiency, caring and safety. All programs and activities will encourage resident snd community involvement in order to accomplish program goals.
