PROJECT SUMMARY:

The HA has identified safety and crime prevention measures to be completed in its public housing units and complexes. The Drug Elimination Program will include security improvements such as lighting, fencing, solid core entrance doors with dead bolts. A basketball court will be installed at one of the complexes, targeted treatment services will be provided along with scholarships for youth to attend recreational and enrichment activities.

Vancouver HA

The HA of Vancouver will use PHDEP 99 funds to reduce/eliminate drug related crime. The strategy will include a comprehensive program called Project HOPE (Hands on Programs and Education). Project HOPE includes youth development, leadership, volunteerism, youth sports, and youth employment programs. VHA will also use funding to support a coordinator for community safety initiatives such as voluntary tenant patrols and crime watch groups. Our Drug intervention program will include specialized case management of drug affected families and youth, counseling, and referral to treatment. Confidential support services will be offered on site and in the community. Job readiness training and employment referrals will be part of the HA's drug elimination strategy.

HA of Portland

PROJECT SUMMARY:

The HA of Portland proposes to continue their developed comprehensive strategy of drug control through the continuation of the Safety Action Team (Law Enforcement), Prevention/Intervention Services, computer learning centers and volunteer program to help residents create public housing communities where drugs and drug-related crime have no place. The programs will be offered at seven sites throughout Multnomah County.

HA of Clackamas County

PROJECT SUMMARY:

PLUS is a comprehensive research-based approach to reduce drugs and drug-related crime in public housing. PLUS partners believe that it is necessary to convince people to forgo high-risk behaviors because of personal and societal costs. Through a consistent presence and involvement with them, we help public housing residents living in HA sites develop self esteem and a sense of new possibilities for the future. PLUS program components include crime prevention services, education assistance, physical and mental health care, employment services, workshops and support groups, recreation, and self expression. Program evaluation is done to monitor the overall effectiveness of the program.

HA & Community Services Agency of Lane County

The HACSA of Lane County will implement a comprehensive five-part Drug Elimination Program which provides families in Eugene, Springfield, Veneta and Florence with drug prevention programs, community policing personnel, security improvements, drug abuse counseling and economic development activities.

North Bend City HA

The North Bend HA provides a number of drug prevention activities to all 108 public housing units in the city. These activities include Boys and Girls Clubs, and Camp Fire Girls and Boys activities, an Indian education program and community policing presence at the Airport Heights development. A computer learning center is in the planning and pre-development stage.

HA of Lincoln County

The HA of Lincoln County intends to address substance abuse and crime in Public Housing developments located in Newport and Toledo, Oregon, by implementing a Drug Elimination Program focusing on adult literacy, Neighbors Night Out special family events and family participation in Neighborhood Watch Programs.

Stabilization of the entire family through reliable housing, supportive services and coordination of Authority based and community efforts is a realistic and holistic approach in the prevention and elimination of drug related criminal activity. Focusing on the stability and wellness of the family unit, the Salem Housing Authority has developed an inclusive and comprehensive drug elimination strategy to address the wide array of needs of all family members through the Family Stabilization Program.
