1999 PHDEP Program Project Summary -- Utah

PROVO CITY HOUSING AUTHORITY --- $54,985

The Provo City Housing Authority will use a comprehensive law enforcement approach to reduce/eliminate criminal and drug related criminal activities in Public Housing developments. Increase police service, including community policing program will be provided to public housing areas. Criminal background checks will be conducted on all prospective housing applicants to screen out individual who represent a potential threat to Public Housing communities because of criminal and drug related criminal histories. In addition, the Housing Authority will provide routine and timely police data to more effectively track drug activity in public housing.

SALT LAKE CITY HOUSING AUTHORITY --- $139,222

The Housing Authority of Salt Lake City plans to continue a successful program to eliminate drugs and violent crime in and around public housing. The activities funded under the PHDEP include security, physical improvements, training, data and crime tracking and resident involvement. The programs success has relied heavily on cooperation and partnerships formed between HASLC, its residents, the community, and other concerned agencies. Continued funding is vital to ensure that the crime and drug activity reductions realized with PHDEP funds do not grow to levels that were present before the PHDEP grant.

SALT LAKE COUNTY HOUSING AUTHORITY --- $137,683

The Housing Authority of the County of Salt Lake (HACSL) is applying for the Drug Elimination Grant in the amount of $137,720. These funds will be used to continue the on-going efforts of HACSL to reduce the level of drug-related criminal activity within ten public housing complexes located throughout Salt Lake County. Grant activities will include: A Community Policing Progra, a Youth Recreation Program, Drug Education, Tenant Association Support, and Self-Sufficiency programming.
