1999 PHDEP Program Project Summary -- Virgin Islands

VIRGIN ISLANDS HOUSING AUTHORITY AMOUNT FUNDED: $0.00

The (VIHA) proposes to continue the activities of the Virgin Islands Housing Authority Police (VIHAP) as they strive to rid public housing of illegal drugs and drug-related crime. VIHAP will continue to deploy its officers in developments most susceptible to criminal activity, as warranted by crime statistics and analysis. VIHAP will also continue its community oriented policing program. COP is designed to build relationships with residents, and develop a sense of confidence among them that working together can produce positive results. In support of VIHAP, the Virgin Islands Housing Authority (VIHA) will conduct a number of crime prevention programs to include the Youth Steel Orchestras in each District, along with the Youth Entrepreneurship program, and other educational and occupational skills training initiatives.
