1999 Multifamily Housing Drug Elimination GrantsPine Bluff, AR 71601RECIPIENT: St. John Apartments PROJECT NAME: St. John Apartments PROJECT STREET: 1105 East 26th Street GRANT AMOUNT: $66,637 SUMMARY: The plan for drug elimination at St. Johns Apartments includes physical improvements to enhance security. The physical improvements being proposed is for the installation of a six (6) foot ornamental iron fence with limit access gates requiring residents and visitors to either use a pass card or an access code in a punch pad to enter on the property by vehicle. This fence and gating system will allow for only one way on to the property and one way out of the property for automobiles, thus reducing crime and violence occurring at St. John Apartments.
Waldron, AR 72958 SUMMARY: FY 1999 Multifamily Housing Drug Elimination Grant Program funds are being applied for: physical improvements to enhance security and the creation of economic/educational opportunities. Physical improvements to enhance security are the installation of additional lighting in the parking areas and in the rear of the buildings and the construction of additional speed breakers in the driveways of the complex. Economic/educational opportunities will define a Neighborhood Network Center located on the complex property to assist residents in improving their educational status and job readiness skills to obtain lifelong employment and self sufficiency. The NNC will offer basic computer classes, educational and fun software, internet access, employment assistance, resource and referral information and GED classes. The schedule and available opportunities and the level of classes will be dependent upon the need of the overall resident make-up. Resident and business surveys will be conducted to evaluate this need every 6 months. This proposal is expected to serve approximately 40 adults that are currently unemployed, 10 adults that are currently employed, and 30 youth under the age of 18 within the first year of operation. *Funded/State of AR Grant Totals: 2 Grant Amount : $191,637 Project Totals: 2 Project Units: 180
