1999 Multifamily Housing Drug Elimination Grants

SUMMARY: The plan for drug elimination at the Chandler Village Apartments includes physical improvements to enhance security, drug prevention and intervention programs, drug education opportunities for residents, family, youth support and economic and educational programs. CVA is currently working with the local HUD field office to create a tenant council. Training and Capacity building for this group will be a key component of the proposal. The programs implemented will include: hire a full time community coordinator to better coordinate CVA drug elimination programs; hire a part time support for transportation and program support; organizing and train a tenant council with youth and community participation; conduct a CVA needs assessment; improve and upgrade the community computer room (family learning center); upgrade one of the three small playground; install additional exterior security and safety lighting; implement a head start program and daycare referrals for children of working parents; provide for job/skills training for residents; improve/expand services that will assist residents with ABE, GED and ESOL: develop on site after school programs for youth; obtain needed transportation to support youth and adult programs.

SUMMARY: The plan for drug elimination at Coronado Courts, a 145-unit moderate rehab family project and Casas de Esperanza, includes, but is not limited to, computer literacy programs, drug awareness through education, intervention and prevention as well as direct services to residents and youth activities as identified by a comprehensive need analysis.
