SUMMARY: Harbor Realty Group plans to initiate a program that will focus on tenant participation, parenting, education, and recreation and will promote mutual and reciprocal partnerships with the owners and managers of Lakeview Apartments, the residents of Lakeview Apartments, and local social service and law enforcement agencies. Harbor Realty Group will utilize the established partnerships with other organizations to refer tenants for treatment and/or individual counseling as professional program leaders become aware of specific problems related to drug usage and/or violent behavior.

SUMMARY: This program of Parkside Terrace Apartments will continue a second year of a comprehensive community development approach to prevent drug related crime. This model, developed by the Family Resource Center of Evansville, brings residents and community agencies together to increase communication and solve problems together. A masters level social worker will coordinate the program, supervise volunteers and offers referrals for resident families to appropriate community agencies. A key aspect will be the expansion of a computer learning center affiliated with HUD's Neighborhood Networks. This will include space for supervised child care while young mothers learn. The Parkside Terrace's newly incorporated neighborhood association, and several participating community organizations will assist with a children's drug education program, and youth, sports and summer activities.

SUMMARY: The plan to make Sutton Place Apartments and the Far Eastside Neighborhood drug-free includes a coordinated effort between the residents, the city, the police and prosecutors, the community and the neighborhood businesses. The Plan calls for physical security improvements to the building. These physical improvements include: reinforcing security doors, exterior lighting and fencing. The plan also calls for a strong neighborhood initiative to provide Drug Education and Prevention activities, and a program to help people find and keep jobs.

GRANT AMOUNT: $125,000

SUMMARY: Jamestown Square of Vincennes, a family community comprised of 120 apartments, has applied under the Multifamily Housing Drug Elimination Grant Program for funding in the amount of $125,000.00. The Award is requested to fund Drug Prevention Educational Programs and Physical Improvements to enhance security for our residents. The PRO-Active educational programs we are proposing will teach families to instill in their children, from infancy, good character building which will in turn prepare the children to say "NO" to DRUGS and VIOLENCE. The physical security improvements proposed include additional security lighting to deter criminal activities, upgrading of the common area entry door systems to the two elderly buildings, and replacement of the plastic frame/lock patio doors with commercial secure steel doors equipped with safety hardware.
