PROJECT NAME: Live Oak Manor Apartments

GRANT AMOUNT: $90,556

SUMMARY: Live Oak Manor, a 119 unit multifamily apartment community in Abbeville, Vermilion Parish, LA , in corporation with HUD and the Abbeville Police plan to implement a 12 month Drug Elimination Program that consists of the following parts:

  1. Limit access from undesirable persons and provided a safer environment for the children living at the 119 unit apartment in Abbeville, Louisiana. This will be accomplished by adding limited access gates to existing fencing at the property.

  2. Add surveillance and lighting to discourage criminals and drug dealers from working the Live Oak community. This will also aid Security and Law Enforcement in documenting, and prosecuting when crimes are committed.

  3. Add a Computer Learning Center that will aid adults on the property to find employment, get the education they need. It is also planned to assist children in increasing computer skills, homework assistance, and provide an avenue to expend their energy in a positive way that will help them as life pressures bear down on them.

GRANT AMOUNT: $125,000

SUMMARY: Sunlight Manor Apartments, is requesting funding under the 1999 Drug Elimination Grant.

Our goal is to implement a comprehensive strategy to deter drugs and drug-related crimes in and around our development sites. We plan to utilize the combined efforts of the Board of Directors, Management, Residents, Law Enforcement and other community based organizations.

To achieve the goals of our Comprehensive Drug Plan, we are proposing to do the following activities:

  1. Increase security at the Authority site through the installation of ornamental iren fencing and exterior security lighting.

  2. Drug education and Prevention for Adult and Youth Residents.
