SUMMARY: The plan for drug elimination includes, to re-focus and refine the methods of treatment and strategies for eliminating drug abuse. To work with community agencies, educational institutions and area businesses to provide the needed resources to assist residents in areas of their personal affairs and providing the opportunity to gain marketable skills. The development's existing computer learning center will be integrated with the proposed programs. Drug Education Counselors will be recruited from the resident population to guide at-risk youths and adults along their individualized paths to more fulfilling and self sufficient lives.

SUMMARY: To prevent new incidents of drug use by children, give children and adults education and training to succeed at home and on the job and to enforce against crime and drug use in and around development.

SUMMARY: In response to recent outbreaks of violence, Madison Park plans to take a comprehensive approach to eliminating drugs in its sprawling eight city block area. Building on existing activities and partnerships with local public and private agencies, drug elimination activities are devided into three key components; physical security, youth programming and workforce development.

PROJECT NAME: Southfield Gardens

GRANT AMOUNT: $125,000

SUMMARY: The proposed program will use comprehensive preventive and capital improvement programs in order to battle drugs and drug-related crimes at Southfield Gardens. Prevention programs will be used to educate our children, teen and adult residents as well as bolster self-esteem and develop a sense of community. Exterior lighting, a property entrance security guard booth and lobby intercom system with security cameras will provide residents with greater protection against drug-related crime. Also, these physical improvements will provide the tools to reduce drug-related vandalism.

GRANT AMOUNT: $114,118

SUMMARY: The proposed program includes a Neighborhood Network, adult and youth educational programs, recreational programs and increased security lighting on the property. Because a great deal of security improvements took place during the rehabilitation of the property, the focus of the proposal is on drug prevention and education.
