1999 New Approach Drug Elimination Grants

Cambridge Square of Lauderdale Lakes/Associates II $250,000
Lauderdale Lakes, Florida

Cambridge Square of Lauderdale Lakes has been awarded $250,000.00 under the New Approach Anti-Drug Program and will partner with the local police department to provide a comprehensive, coordinated, neighborhood approach to eliminate drugs and other crime problem in and around its neighborhood. Funds will be used to erect a fence along the southern property line and install new windows and patio doors in the apartments. This will benefit all of the 918 residents that reside in Cambridge Square along with residents in the entire neighborhood.


Flagler Village Partnership $250,000
St. Augustine, Florida

Services Taylor Made, Incorporated, has been awarded $250,000.00 under the New Approach Anti-Drug Program and will partner with the owners/management of Flagler Village Apartments, along with the residents, the St. Johns County Sheriff's Office, Flagler-Based Non-Profit Organizations, United Way Agencies, and Americorps to provide a comprehensive, coordinated neighborhood approach to eliminate drugs and other crime problems in Village Apartments. The grant funds will be used for physical improvements(security fencing, gates and landscaping) and additional patrol time.


Hickory Knoll Apartments, Limited $185,260
Ocala, Florida

The partnership between Hickory Knoll Apartments, Sutton Place Apartments, and the Ocala Police Department has been awarded $185,260 under the New Approach Anti-Drug Program and will provide a comprehensive coordinated neighborhood approach to eliminate drugs and other crime problems in the Northeast section of Ocala, Florida. The funds will be used to install automatic gates at the complex entrances to control drive-through traffic, landscaping to augment security, lighted addresses and apartment numbers to ease identification of each unit, and closed circuit television to aid in the arrest and prosecution of criminals.


Housing Authority of the City of Fort Meyers $145,918
Fort Meyers, Florida

The Fort Myers Housing Authority's Drug Elimination Task Force has been awarded $145,918.00 under the New Approach Anti-Drug Program and will partner with the Florida State Police Department; the State's Attorney's Office; the Department of Juvenile Justice; and Abuse Counseling and Treatment, Incorporated to provide a comprehensive, coordinated approach to eliminate drugs and other crime problems in Sabal Palms 1 and 2 Apartments. The grant funds will be used to make capital improvements and provide additional police presence in the neighborhood.


Magnolia Arms Associates Limited $246,987
Jacksonville, Florida

Palm Terrace, its management company, and Magnolia Arms Associates Limited has been awarded $246,987.00 under the New Approach Anti-Drug Program and will partner with the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office to provide a comprehensive, coordinated neighborhood approach to eliminate drugs and other crime problems in neighborhood. The primary goal of the grant is to reduce drugs and drug related crime through increased arrest and prosecution efforts.
