1999 New Approach Drug Elimination Grants

Gateway to West Sertoma, a not-for-profit service organization, has been awarded $200,800.00 under the New Approach Anti-Drug Program and will partner with various agencies and organizations throughout the community, including the City of Decatur, the Police Department, the Decatur Public Housing Authority, Decatur Community Partnerships, Heritage Behavioral Health and others to provide a comprehensive, coordinated neighborhood approach to eliminate drugs and other crime problems in Greenwood Manor Apartments and the surrounding neighborhood. Funds from this grant will be used for the following: improving security systems, providing additional training to security guards through the Police Department, and helping defray some of the costs of security guards used to augment the customary services of the Police Department.

Hispanic Housing $215,272
Danville, Illinois

Hispanic Housing has been awarded $215,272.00 under the New Approach Anti-Drug Program and will partner with local and federal law enforcement agencies to provide a comprehensive coordinated, neighborhood approach to eliminate drugs and other crime activities in the Vermillion Garden Apartments and the surrounding neighborhood. Grant funds will be used to provide for physical improvements such as the installation of security lights, door replacement, and an intercom system.

Town and Country Associates $222,000
Granite City, Illinois

Town and Country Associates has been awarded $222,000.00 under the New Approach Anti-Drug Program and will partner with Granite City Housing Authority to provide a comprehensive, coordinated neighborhood approach to eliminate drugs and other crime problems in the neighborhood. The grant will be used to reimburse local law enforcement entities for the cost of additional police presence in and around assisted housing developments. These additional patrols will be over and above baseline services currently provided.
