1999 New Approach Drug Elimination Grants

Cleme Manor Chartible Trust for Cleme Manor $238,000
Houston, Texas

Cleme Manor Charitable Trust has been awarded $238,000.00 under the New Approach Anti-Drug Program and will partner with Houston Police, the new Mayor's Super Neighborhood Council, the Harris County District Attorney, and the Harris County Commissioners to provide a comprehensive, coordinated, neighborhood approach to eliminate drugs and other crime problems in the Kashmere Gardens/ Pinecrest Neighborhood. Grant funds will be used to augment security through additional security guards and to provide for physical improvements directly related to the security of Cleme Manor.


Community Development Properties/Royal Crest, Inc $250,000
Dallas, Texas

Community Development Properties/Royal Crest Apartments has been awarded $250,000.00 under the New Approach Anti-Drug Program and will partner with management, residents, police, the Dallas County District Attorney's office, and Fruitdale Community Organization to provide a comprehensive, coordinated approach to eliminate drugs and other crime activity in the Fruitdale Neighborhood. These funds will be used exclusively to increase security.


Dallas Housing Corporation $250,000
Dallas, Texas

The Dallas Housing Corporation has been awarded $250,000.00 under the New Approach Anti-Drug Program and will work in tandem to create a strong law enforcement presence in the Cedar Glen development and surrounding community to provide a comprehensive, coordinated neighborhood approach to eliminate drugs and drug related crime. Grant funds will be used to reimburse law enforcement over and above baseline services.


Housing Authority of El Paso for Hervey, Munoz, & Henderson $250,000
El Paso, Texas

The Housing Authority of El Paso has been awarded $250,000.00 under the New Approach Anti-Drug Program and will partner with the local police department to provide a comprehensive, coordinated, neighborhood approach to eliminate drugs and other crime problem in and around its neighborhood. Two components are utilized for this purpose: the Security Component and the Physical Improvements Component. The security component consists of hiring off-duty police officers to patrol communities to combat trafficking and drug-related crime as well as work with resident associations to establish neighborhood watch groups. The physical improvements component consists of implementation of exterior security lighting, security screen windows and doors, and landscaping of common grounds to control access into the communities, deter drug-related crime, and eliminate dark or concealed areas frequented by criminals.


Housing Authority of El Paso for Sitgraves Manor $250,000
El Paso, Texas

The Housing Authority of El Paso has been awarded $250,000.00 under the New Approach Anti-Drug Program and will partner with the local police department to provide a comprehensive, coordinated, neighborhood approach to eliminate drugs and other crime problem in and around its targeted housing developments. Funds will be used for hiring off-duty police officers to patrol communities to combat trafficking and drug-related crime. The physical improvements consist of exterior security lighting, security screen windows and doors, and the landscaping of common grounds to control access into the communities, deter drug related crime, and eliminate dark or concealed areas frequented by criminals.


Pilgrim Valley Manor Trust $250,000
Fort Worth, Texas

Pilgrim Valley Manor has been awarded $250,000.00 under the New Approach Anti-Drug Program and will partner with the Fort Worth Police Department to provide a comprehensive, coordinated neighborhood approach to eliminate drugs and other crime problems in the neighborhood. Funds will be used for: rehabilitation of an existing site into a Neighborhood Network Center, a closed circuit television for remote security, and office space for an off-duty police officer.


West Durango Plaza Trust, Incorporated $240,000
San Antonio, Texas

West Durango Plaza Trust, Incorporated, has been awarded $240,000.00 under the New Approach Anti-Drug Program and will partner with the Las Palmas neighborhood/Edgewook School District to provide a comprehensive, coordinated neighborhood approach to eliminate drugs and other crime problems in the area. The partnership is designed to establish an ongoing relationship with local law enforcement. Grant funds will used to provide a reimbursement of local law enforcement for services above the baseline.
