Rural Housing and Economic Development 1999 GrantsPROJECT SUMMARY: MARYLAND The Garret County, Maryland Community Action Committee, in Oakland, MD, will receive a Rural Housing and Economic Development Grant in the amount of $504,000. The applicant is planning to develop 50 new owner occupied units with its school partnerships, single family building sites, and Individual Development Accounts. Through its school partnerships, the applicant will build homes that can be sold at about 20% less than the cost of contractor built houses and establish a $75,000 loan fund that will be used for interest free interim financing. In kind leveraging and financing resources total $12,510,695 in support of this program. Key participants include: the Maryland Housing Finance Agency, the Maryland Department of Environment, the National Rural Home Partnership, and the American Trust Bank.
