Rural Housing and Economic Development 1999 Grants

PROJECT SUMMARY: MICHIGAN

FiveCAP, Inc., in Scottville, MI, will receive a Rural Housing and Economic Development Grant in the amount of $500,000. FiveCAP proposes to recruit and hire housing development staff to implement the housing element of the Enterprise Community Strategic Plan. This includes replacing substandard housing, increasing the affordable housing stock and increasing homeownership. $300,000 of the RHED grant will be used to identify and acquire 50 housing sites. In an effort to better serve those in need of affordable housing, the applicant has formed a partnership with the Lake County Habitat for Humanity to increase housing production using modular housing technology as well as Habitat's model for self-help housing. This program will serve Lake County, MI. Additional funding resources total $362,834 in support of this program. Key partners are the Lake County Habitat for Humanity and the Lake County Enterprise Community Board.
