Rural Housing and Economic Development 1999 Grants

PROJECT SUMMARY: OREGON

Casa of Oregon, in Newberg, OR, will receive a Rural Housing and Economic Development Grant in the amount of $200,000. Casa of Oregon will work with the Washington State Office of Rural and Farmworker Housing and the Idaho Migrant Council to develop a new arm to the existing Tri-State Revolving Loan Fund. The primary purpose of this new RLF arm will be to provide needed dollars for the development of dignified, safe sanitary rural in-town, migrant farmworker housing that is integrated into the local community. The Northwest Regional Facilitators will serve as a third party to administer funds. The project proposes to provide predevelopment loan funding to assist in the creation of 188 units of in-town migrant housing (five persons per unit) and will provide housing for approximately 940 farmworkers and their families. This program will serve communities in the states of Idaho, Oregon and Washington.
