Youthbuild 1999 Grants: Project SummariesIndiana
The Tree of Life, Gary, Indiana: The Tree of Life will receive a Youthbuild Implementation Grant in the amount of $400,000. The 55 participants will be learning on-site construction skills by working to rehabilitate the 3-story units, formerly the Y.W.C.A., into transitional housing for the homeless (20 units). The program will provide a comprehensive and integrated effort to increase the academic, leadership, and vocational skill level of trainees. Cash and in-kind leveraging resources total $304,639. The program's main partners are Americorps USA and Oakland/Renaissance Inc.
