Youthbuild 1999 Grants: Project SummariesMaine
Portland West Neighborhood Planning Council, Portland, ME, a prior Youthbuild Grant recipient, will receive a Youthbuild Implementation Grant in the amount of $400,000. The 36 regular Youthbuild participants will be learning leadership skills, computer skills, career preparation/life skills, living english, receive training for GED/SAT/diploma preparation, building math, vocational skills, on site constructions training and complete substantial rehabilitation on a single family dwelling located on Winter Street. Leveraging of cash and/or in-kind totaling $507,692 will be used to support the program. Key participants include: Mercy Hospital, Portland Metro, Planned Parenthood of Northern New England, Portland Public Health Division, YWCA Daycare, Catherine Morrill Child Care Center, YMCA, Pine Tree Legal Assistance, University of Maine Cooperative Extension Service, Private Landlords, Fair Harbor and the Portland Housing Authority.
