Youthbuild 1999 Grants: Project Summaries

The Waynesboro Redevelopment and Housing Authority, Waynesboro, VA: The Waynesboro Redevelopment and Housing Authority will receive a Youthbuild Implementation Grant in the amount of $525,417. These 24 at risk youth will be recruited for the purpose of increasing their opportunity for economic growth through learning and construction industry. The participants will be learning on-site construction skills and improving their educational skills by working to construct two 3-bedroom single family detached homes. The property is currently owned by the Waynesboro Housing Authority. The program will provide a comprehensive and integrated enrichment program with emphasis on the academic, leadership and vocational skill level of trainees. The proposed cash and/or in-kind leveraging resources totaled $71,310 in support of this program. Key participants include: Educational & Training Corporation, Building Blocks Learning Center, and Waynesboro Office on Youth.
