Youthbuild 1999 Grants: Project SummariesWashingtonThe Tacoma-Pierce County Employment and Training Consortium, Tacoma, WA will receive a Youthbuild Implementation Grant for $300,000. The 18 participants will be learning on-site construction skills by working to demolish a dilapidated structure and construct a duplex unit within the Salishan Public Housing Development. The program will provide a comprehensive and integrated effort to increase the academic, leadership, and vocational skill level of trainees. The housing being undertaken will provide low income residents an opportunity to live in comfort. The trainees will have pride in their achievement of being part of a project that will bring about better living conditions to the residents of Salishan Public Housing. The Tacoma-Pierce County Employment and Training Consortium is proud of the priority that will be given to the residents of Tacoma's public housing which is located in the federally designated Enterprise Community.The proposed cash and in-kind leveraging resources total $307,000 in support of this program. Key participants and supporters include: The City of Tacoma, The Tacoma Housing Authority, Bates Technical College, Clover Park Technical College, Pierce County Central Labor Council, Pierce County, Washington Building Construction Trades Council and The Tacoma Urban League, Inc.
