RURAL HOUSING AND ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT FY2000 GRANTS

PROJECT SUMMARY

Colorado

The Region 10 League for Economic Assistance and Planning, Inc., of Montrose will receive a Rural Housing and Economic Development grant in the amount of $50,000. This capacity building grant will be used to develop a technical assistance program which will assist local communities in implementing their economic development and housing goals. The target areas are the Colorado Counties and municipalities of Delta, Gunnison, Hindsdale, Montrose, Ouray and San Miguel. A staff Circuit Rider and the Advisory Committee will work on specific community projects and conduct seminars on economic and housing issues. Other activities include: establishing an economic development technical assistance advisory committee, developing and implementing an annual work plan and creating an evaluation tool to measure the effectiveness of the organization. Proposed cash and in-kind leveraging resources total $176,600 for this project. Primary partners include: the member local governments within the six-county service area of Region 10, small business development Center, West Central Housing Development Organization, Colorado Department of Local Affairs, Colorado Office of Economic Development ad International Trade, U.S. Department of Commerce, Economic Development Administration.

Southwest Community Resources, Inc., located in Durango will receive a Rural Housing and Economic Development Grant in the amount of $50,000. This capacity building grant will be used to provide housing and economic development technical assistance to business and community development groups in five rural counties in Southwest Colorado. The target counties are Dolores, San Juan, Montezuma, La Plata and Archuleta. Activities include: developing strategic plans, establishing local micro-loan programs, supporting the San Juan Business Incubator and Entryway projects and providing technical assistance to the San Juan 2000 Development Association. Proposed cash and in-kind leveraging resources total $277,500 for this project. Partners include: Region 9 Economic Development District of Southwest Colorado, Inc., San Juan 2000 Development Association, San Juan County Historical Society and the Small Business Development Center.
