PROJECT SUMMARY

Florida

The Centro Campesino Farmworker Center Inc. in Florida City will receive a Rural Housing and Economic Development Grant in the amount of $500,000. This innovative activities grant will enhance the homebuyer counseling at Villa Lego and assist in the development of 103 units of homeowner housing for farmworkers in Palm Beach County. The project will serve low and very low income farmworkers. Proposed cash and in-kind leveraging resources total approximately $9 million. Key partners include: Palm Beach County Community Financing Corporation Consortium and the First Bank of Clewiston.

The Everglades Community Association Incorporated in Homestead will receive a Rural Housing and Economic Development Grant in the amount of $500,000. This support for innovative activities grant will allow the design and construction of a 120 acre rural mixed use community known as Everglades Farmworker Village. The proposed project will provide 161 townhouse, single-family and duplex units, a 160-child Head Start Center, neighborhood retail complex, homework assistance center and a ten acre park to serve low income migrant and other farm workers. Proposed cash and in-kind leveraging resources total approximately $16,700,000. Key partners include: the U. S. Department of Agriculture, Miami Dade County, We Will Rebuild Foundation, Community Trust Federal Credit Union, Centro Campesino Farmworker Center, and the Catholic Archdiocese of Miami.

The Immokalee Foundation in Immokalee, Florida, will receive a Rural Housing and Economic Development Grant in the amount of $180,500. This seed support grant will provide the management support necessary to run a 300 bed facility for farmworkers and their families. Social services will be provided including health services and English classes. The proposed cash and in-kind leveraging resources total approximately $3,700,000. Key participants include: the Collier County Housing Authority, Immokalee Friendship House, Collier County Housing and Urban Improvement Department, the Empowerment Alliance of Southwest Florida, and the Redlands Christian Migrant Association.
