Family Self-Sufficiency Program Grants 2000


LOUISIANA

Shreveport Housing Authority --- $45,760

The Housing Authority of the City of Shreveport has 50 families participating in the its Family Self-Sufficiency (FSS) Program. The Section 8 FSS Program Coordinator (herein referred to as the Coordinator) serves as the primary person responsible for the day-to-day administration and monitoring of all facets of the Authority's FSS program. The Coordinator is the liaison and serves as the hub with respect to the FSS program's administration in collecting, disseminating and/or routing information to and from the Authority, residents, resident councils, resident advisory board, public housing managers, social service agencies, educational institutions, job fairs, financial institutions, child care services, etc. The Coordinator completes applications on each FSS participant, compiles individual needs assessments, assists in the establishment of measurable and obtainable long and short-range goals/milestones to include time schedules, monitors individual participant's progress, and makes initial contact with service providers on behalf of the FSS participants. The Coordinator is available to participants as a case manger, enrolls interested FSS participants in the Authority's homeownership counseling and training programs, and coordinates available public and private resources to integrate them into individual development programs so participants with comprehensive and coordinated needs will be afforded the opportunity to become economically independent and possibly achieve the "American Dream".

Housing Authority of New Orleans --- $31,200

The Housing Authority of New Orleans has 110 families participating in its FSS program. In New Orleans, the Section 8 FSS Program Coordinator coordinates existing public and private sector resources and integrates them into personal development programs so individuals who need comprehensive and coordinated help can become economically independent. The Coordinator effectively helps low income families and individuals move toward independent living and economic independence. The coordinator oversees program activities, including working with the Program Coordinating Committee (PCC). The Coordinator also coordinates PHA and outside agency's activities to achieve a common goal of providing needed services to assist clients in achieving their goals.

Calcasieu Parish --- $20,061

The Calcasieu Parish has 23 families participating in the FSS program. The Section 8 FSS Program Coordinator coordinates existing public and private sector resources and integrates them into personal development programs so individuals who need comprehensive and coordinated help can become economically independent. The Coordinator effectively helps low income families and individuals move toward independent living and economic independence.
