MARYLAND

Housing Commission of Anne Arundel County --- $33,025

The Housing Commission of Anne Arundel County has 52 families participating in the FSS program. Section 8 FSS program coordinator works with local service providers to assure that program participants are linked to the supportive services they need to achieve self-sufficiency. The FSS program coordinator may ensure, through case management, that the services included in participants' contracts of participation are provided on a regular, ongoing and satisfactory basis, and that participants are fulfilling their responsibilities under the contracts.

Housing Authority of Baltimore City --- $46,090

The Housing Authority of Baltimore City has 332 families participating in the FSS program. The Section 8 FSS program coordinator works with local service providers to assure that program participants are linked to the supportive services they need to achieve self-sufficiency. The FSS program coordinator may ensure, through case management, that the services included in participants' contracts of participation are provided on a regular, ongoing and satisfactory basis, and that participants are fulfilling their responsibilities under the contracts. The FSS program assist low-income families to break the barriers which prevent them from fulfilling their potential and becoming economically independent and self-sufficient. FSS, with emphasis on cooperative efforts between public and private sectors, linked to the tangible assistance of Section 8 Certificates and identified public housing units, promises to be an avenue toward this goal. Supportive services from profit/non-profit entities, local/public agencies are as follows: child care, transportation, educational services, job training development and placement, substance abuse treatment and counseling, homemaking, parenting/ money management training, household management training, counseling in homeownership responsibilities and opportunities.

Howard County Housing Commission --- $30,359

The Howard County Housing Commission has 12 families participating in the Section 8 FSS program. The Section 8 FSS program coordinator works with local service providers to assure that program participants are linked to the supportive services they need to achieve self-sufficiency. The FSS program coordinator may ensure, through case management, that the services included in participants' contracts of participation are provided on a regular, ongoing and satisfactory basis, and that participants are fulfilling their responsibilities under the contracts. The Section 8 FSS program provides for an incentive based approached that is based on the FSS concept and that incorporates the benefits and special needs of the suburban environment. The overall program will be positive but also provide emphasis to the personal responsibility aspect of the road to self-sufficiency and life in general. The supportive services include: educational programs; job training programs; job search programs and child care programs.
