Family Self-Sufficiency Program Grants 2000


NORTH CAROLINA

Greenville Housing Authority --- $30,083

The agency has contracted with 62 families of the total 80 units in its mandatory FSS Program. The Section 8 FSS Coordinator is responsible for counseling families in the FSS Program to make it possible for them to ultimately achieve self-sufficiency, without the further need to rely on government subsidies. Duties of FSS Coordinators include enrolling families and counseling them in such matters as obtaining transportation and child care services so that participants may get jobs or schooling to prepare them for jobs that will support them and their dependents.

DOP Consolidated Human Services Agency --- $24,067

The Housing Authority has contracted with 67 families; it has 64 mandatory FSS slots. The Section 8 FSS Coordinator is responsible for working with families in the FSS Program to make it possible for them to ultimately achieve self-sufficiency, without the further need to rely on government subsidies. Duties of FSS Coordinators include enrolling families and counseling them in such matters as obtaining transportation and child care services so that participants may get jobs or schooling to prepare them for jobs that will support them and their dependents.

Coastal Community Action, Inc. --- $30,974

Prior to FYE 9/30/98, this Housing Authority had no mandatory FSS units. It received funding for 50 units 9/30/98. It has an approved FSS Plan; however, it is dependent upon the funding for an FSS Coordinator to begin its program. Families will be chosen to participate in the FSS Program, and with the assistance of the FSS Coordinator, will take steps to achieve self-sufficiency, without the further need to rely on government subsidies. The duties of FSS Coordinators include enrolling families and counseling them in such matters as obtaining transportation and child care services so that participants may get jobs or schooling to prepare them for jobs that will support them and their dependents.

Kinston Housing Authority --- $32,500

The Kinston Housing Authority has a reduced FSS program size of 25. Currently, the agency has no families under contract. It is dependent upon funding for an FSS Coordinator to get its program started. The FSS Coordinator will enroll and counsel families, and otherwise provide assistance toward the ultimate goal of making these families self-sufficient and no longer dependent upon government subsidies. Duties of FSS Coordinators include enrolling families and counseling them in such matters as obtaining transportation and child care services so that participants may get jobs or schooling to prepare them for jobs that will support them and their dependents.

Charlotte Housing Authority --- $41,180

The Housing Authority has 100 families participating in the FSS Program. The FSS Coordinator enroll and counsel families, and otherwise provides assistance toward the ultimate goal of making these families self-sufficient and no longer dependent upon government subsidies. Duties of FSS Coordinators include enrolling families and counseling them in such matters as obtaining transportation and child care services so that participants may get jobs or schooling to prepare them for jobs that will support them and their dependents.

Franklin-Vance-Warren Opportunity, Inc. --- $37,861

The Franklin-Vance-Warren Opportunity, Inc., has 28 families participating in the FSS program. The FSS Coordinator enroll and counsel families, and otherwise provides assistance toward the ultimate goal of making these families self-sufficient and no longer dependent upon government subsidies. Duties of FSS Coordinators include enrolling families and counseling them in such matters as obtaining transportation and child care services so that participants may get jobs or schooling to prepare them for jobs that will support them and their dependents.
