Ithaca Housing Authority --- $46,350
The Housing Authority located in Ithaca, New York operates a Section 8 Program which provides rental assistance to 540 families. At the present time 61 of these families are participating in the Section 8 FSS Program. The PHA's FSS Program has become a model of good practice within the industry, and continues to provide expanded service for their Section 8 participants through the Three Pillar Foundation (3PF) and its additional IDA(Individual Development Account). A grant-funded coordinator oversees the administration of the FSS Program.
Town of Bethlehem --- $21,995
The Town of Bethlehem, New York received funding to hire a Section 8 Family Self-Sufficiency Program Coordinator for a one year period. The person hired for the position will be responsible for establishing a Section 8 FSS Program for 25 families currently receiving Section 8 Rental Assistance in the Town of Bethlehem.
Town of Coeymans --- $21,995
Located in New York State, the Town of Coeymans received funding to hire a Section 8 Family Self-Sufficiency Program Coordinator for a one year period. The Coordinator will be responsible for establishing a Section 8 FSS Program for 25 families currently participating in the Town's Section 8 Rental Assistance Program.
Town of Rotterdam --- $46,350
The Town of Rotterdam, New York received funding to establish a Section 8 FSS Program for 80 of its Section 8 Program Participates. The funds will be utilized to hire a Section 8 FSS Program Coordinator which will be responsible for establishing an FSS Program for the Town.
Syracuse Housing Authority --- $44,079
The Syracuse Housing Authority received funds to pay the salary of a Section 8 Family Self-Sufficiency Program Coordinator to oversee the operation of their FSS Program for one year. At the present time the PHA has 482 families participating in the FSS Program.
New York City Department of Housing Preservation and Development (HPD) --- $46,350
New York City HPD has an active and successful Family Self-Sufficiency (FSS) Program. They currently have 762 enrollees, one of the largest FSS programs in the country. HPD has coordinated its efforts with other local housing agencies in order to pool resources and ideas in this significant undertaking. HPD, in partnership with other local entities, provide FSS families with various services such as job training, to enable them to achieve financial independence. HPD's FSS Coordinator will be the key staff person that pulls all the pieces together: education, employment, and counseling services.
Port Jervis Community Development Agency --- $29,733
The City of Port Jervis has an active and successful Family Self-Sufficiency (FSS) Program. Despite its relative isolation from many of the services needed to support families as they transition from welfare to work, the City has had 5 families complete the program, one of which used its escrow account to purchase their first home while another family's escrow helped pay for college. They currently have 23 enrollees, 13 of which have positive balances in their escrow accounts. The City, in partnership with other local entities, provide FSS families with various services such as job training, to enable them to achieve financial independence. Port Jervis' FSS Coordinator is the key staff person that pulls all the pieces together: education, employment, and counseling services, along with individualized case management.
