RURAL HOUSING AND ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT FY2000 GRANTS

PROJECT SUMMARY

Idaho

The Idaho Migrant Council, Inc., located in Caldwell will receive a Rural Housing and Economic Development Grant in the amount of $50,000. This capacity building grant will be used to support the development of affordable multi-family housing for the farm worker community. Activities include home ownership education and mortgage assistance. The grantee will partner with lending institutions, government agencies and other non-profits to develop flexible loan products. Cash and in-kind leveraging resources total $553,949. Partners include: U.S. Department of Agriculture, U.S. Department of Labor, Federal Home Loan Bank of Seattle, Bank of America, Housing Assistance Council, Rural Community assistance Corporation, The Bank of Commerce and several local governments.

The Nez Perce Tribe of Idaho will receive a Rural Housing and Economic Development grant of $50,000. This capacity building grant will be used to hire a utility manager to manage and maintain the existing sanitation facilities. This sanitation facilities will complement future proposed projects, including: 50 units of new single family homes, future commercial development, a new Nez Perce Boys and Girls Club. Key partners include: Indian Health Service, Spokane District Office, Bureau of Indian Affairs Agency, Nez Perce Tribal Land Services Department, Nez Perce Tribal Housing Authority, Nez Perce Water Resources, Tribal Rights Employment Office, Boys and Girls Club, Nez Perce Community and Economic Development, Environmental Protection Agency and the City of Lapwai.
