RURAL HOUSING AND ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT FY2000 GRANTS

PROJECT SUMMARY

Illinois

Shawnee Development Council, Inc., Karnak will receive a Rural Housing and Economic Development Grant in the amount of $50,000. This capacity building grant will be used for expanding the current housing operations to create new, affordable housing opportunities and economic development for low income families in rural areas. It will also provide supportive services and case management to home buyers for the first two years as well as hiring of additional staff to carry out its objectives. This program would serve eligible clients in seven counties of their service delivery area. Two of their service areas are designated Empowerment Zones, Pulaski County and a portion of its neighboring counties Alexander and Johnson. Key partners include: Southernmost Illinois Delta Empowerment Zone, Inc. and USDA Rural Development. Leveraging resources total $54,650 for this project.
