STATEMENT FROM ANDREW CUOMO, SECRETARY OF HOUSING AND URBAN DEVELOPMENT ON THE HOPE VI PROJECT WINNING THE INNOVATIONS IN AMERICAN GOVERNMENT AWARD
"I am thrilled that, for the third time in the past five years, a HUD program has won an Innovations in American Government Award. Working as partners with local housing authorities and their residents, HUD's HOPE VI program is sparking a revitalization revolution in cities all across the land, giving families and communities a fresh start and showing that government can respond competently and creatively to address some of our nation's most difficult problems. HOPE VI is an important tool in rebuilding our public housing communities, but the real credit for this award is due the countless people who are using HOPE VI to craft unique and promising local solutions to their local needs. We at HUD are committed to nurturing their creative work and sharing its lessons widely."
