STATEMENT BY SECRETARY CUOMO ON SCHOOL SHOOTING IN MICHIGAN
WASHINGTON - Housing and Urban Development Secretary Andrew Cuomo today issued the following statement in response to the fatal shooting of 6-year-old Kayla Rolland by a boy the same age in Michigan on Tuesday:
"How many more children must be shot before gun manufacturers face up to their responsibility to put safety devices on guns? It makes no sense that a nation that requires child safety caps on aspirin bottles fails to require safety locks on deadly firearms. The tragic death of Kayla Rolland could have been prevented if a simple device had stopped the little boy who killed her from firing the gun he brought to school. Gun makers should accept this fact and agree to make safety devices mandatory on every gun they produce."
