Resident Opportunities and Self Sufficiency (ROSS) Program

Jefferson County Housing Authority --- $31,917

The Jefferson County Housing Authority will be funded for a One-year Service Coordinator Renewal Grant in the amount of $31,917. The Housing Authority will provide a Service Coordinator four days per week to serve 235 elderly and disabled persons residing in Jefferson County Housing Authority Public Housing apartment complexes. The Service Coordinator will be hired through a contract with a local social service agency. The Coordinator will link elderly residents, especially those who are frail or at-risk, or residents with disabilities to the support services they need to continue living independently.

Florence Housing Authority --- $39,347

The Florence Housing Authority will be funded for a One-year Service Coordinator Renewal Grant in the amount of $39,347. The Housing Authority will provide the residents with a Service Coordinator, who will administer programs such as ceramics, shut-in and nursing home visitation, exercise classes, Northwest Alabama Community Health Clinic interaction, and fellowship opportunities at the Resident Services Building located at 309-A Handy Homes. This Facility is totally dedicated by the Authority to the programs made possible by the grant and includes an office for the Coordinator. The Coordinator will continue to be involved with area agencies, which provide services to the grant's targeted population. The Coordinator will also develop senior volunteers for programs, which serve low-income, at-risk youth, such as the Boys and Girls Clubs of Northwest Alabama and West Way Child Development Center.
