RURAL HOUSING AND ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT FY2000 GRANTS

The Community Development Corporation of Utah located in Salt Lake City will receive $395,600. This innovative activities grant will be used to initiate an innovative housing program called the Affordability Project. The objective of this project is to increase the supply of affordable housing in rural Utah. The Grantee will reduce housing costs by using cost cutting methods including donated land, volunteers, innovative architectural designs, eliminating local government fees and establishing low-interest revolving loan funds. Project activities include: securing a warehouse, manufacturing building components, collecting and distributing donated building materials such as flooring, roofing, paint and securing public and private low-interest mortgage loan funds. Cash and in-kind leveraging resources total $1,012,000 in support of this project. Key partners include: State of Utah Department of Community and Economic Development, American Express Centurion Bank, Utah Housing Technical Assistance Program and Washington Mutual Foundation.
