STATEMENT FROM THE U.S. DEPARTMENT OF HOUSING AND URBAN DEVELOPMENT REGARDING NEGOTIATIONS WITH MIAMI-DADE COUNTY OFFICIALS
The following statement is from DJ Nordquist, HUD spokesperson, regarding recent negotiations with the Miami-Dade County officials concerning the Miami-Dade Housing Agency and its mismanagement:We are saddened that Miami-Dade's leadership failed to act in the best interests of the families who rely upon MDHA for housing. HUD approached Miami-Dade in an unprecedented manner welcoming a partnership that addressed federal issues, while accommodating local concerns wherever possible. Regrettably, Miami-Dade has elected confrontation and not cooperation.
These residents and all the other citizens of Miami-Dade County have been waiting years and years for their housing authority to install proper management, practice financial honesty and deliver long-promised housing. They have waited long enough. HUD intends to take any and all necessary steps to protect the interests of Miami's most vulnerable families as well as the taxpayers of the United States.
