HUD Awards $4.9 Million to Public Housing Agencies to Correct Emergency Conditions
Set-Aside Funding Will Help Address Threats to the Health and Safety of Public Housing Residents
WASHINGTON - The U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) today awarded $5.4 million to five Public Housing Agencies (PHAs) to correct emergency conditions that pose an immediate and imminent threat to the health and safety of public housing residents.
The funding was awarded through the Emergency Capital Reserve, Emergency/Disaster Funds set-aside through the Public Housing Capital Fund Program.
"The safety of HUD-assisted public housing households is our top priority," said Secretary Marcia L. Fudge. "These funds will help ensure that PHAs make necessary, timely improvements to protect the safety and well-being of their residents."
HUD has made the following awards:

| NY | West Carthage Housing Authority | $358,482 | Funding will be used for the emergency replacement of the roofing of 50 public housing units located in 1 building. |
| NY | New York City Housing Authority | $490,000 | Funding will be used for the emergency installation for electronic voltage regulators at 20 buildings across three NYCHA developments. |
| NJ | Hightstown Housing Authority | $499,350 | Funding will be used for the emergency replacement of the underground pipe system of public housing building 3, 4, and 5. |
| RI | Jamestown Housing Authority | $1,488,677 | Funding will be used for the emergency heating and electrical replacement at 35 units in one housing development. |
| KY | Housing Authority of Pikeville | $2,098,380 | Funding will be used for the emergency replacement of the wastewater collection lines and the electric distribution switchboard system for the Myers Towers development. |

The 2022 Appropriations Act established the FY 2022 set-aside of Capital Funds for the Emergency Reserve. Congress appropriated $20 million for the Reserve. At the time of fund assignment for these grants, $9,219,758 in funds are still available in the set-aside of Capital Funds for the Emergency and Disaster Reserve to better serve HUDs 2,818 PHAs nationwide.
