Statement from HUD Secretary Marcia L. Fudge on Memorial Day and National Military Appreciation MonthWASHINGTON - Today, Marcia L. Fudge, the 18th Secretary of the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) issued the following statement to commemorate Memorial Day on Monday, May 29, 2023: "On this Memorial Day, we remember the vast importance, value, and courage of those who have served and those who continue to serve in the United States Armed Forces. This May, we also mark National Military Appreciation Month, an annual celebration of the achievements and impact of America's military family." "Here at HUD, we are devoted to supporting America's veterans and military families. We know that when military families succeed, we all succeed. Our HUD-Veterans Affairs Supportive Housing (HUD-VASH) program is just one example of how HUD helps to support, house, and protect America's veteran community and military families. Through HUD-VASH, we currently house approximately 79,400 veterans and we are proud to have served over 224,000 veterans since the program began." "It has never been more important to show our appreciation for those who protect our country.
