HUD Principal Deputy Assistant Secretary for Policy Development and Research Solomon Greene Leads U.S. Delegation to United Nations Habitat Assembly in Nairobi, Kenya

PDAS Greene to Deliver U.S. National Statement on Behalf of HUD Secretary Marcia L. Fudge

WASHINGTON - The U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development's (HUD) Principal Deputy Assistant Secretary (PDAS) for Policy Development and Research Solomon Greene will lead the U.S. government delegation to the United Nations (UN) Habitat Assembly in Nairobi, Kenya from June 5th to 9th. The delegation includes officials from the U.S. Department of State; U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID); representatives of regional government; academics; business people; community leaders; and urban planners.

The convening will identify opportunities to achieve a sustainable urban future through inclusive and effective multilateralism and highlight local actions that can drive progress towards achieving the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). In partnership with the University of Chicago, the United States will host a panel discussion featuring new ideas, tools, and best practices, including community-driven planning and urban regeneration models supported by HUD's Choice Neighborhoods program and the UN-Habitat Urban Regeneration Flagship Programme.

"I am honored to lead the U.S. delegation to the 2023 UN-Habitat Assembly in Nairobi to help reaffirm the United States' leadership in promoting good governance and comprehensive approaches to housing and urban development issues," said HUD Principal Deputy Assistant Secretary Solomon Greene. "It is my hope that, together with our global partners, we can forge agreements that advance prosperity, growth, and equal opportunity."

The United Nations Human Settlements Programme (UN-Habitat) is mandated by the UN General Assembly to promote socially and environmentally sustainable towns and cities. UN-Habitat works with partners to build inclusive, safe, resilient, and sustainable cities and communities. UN-Habitat promotes urbanization as a positive, transformative force for people and communities, reducing inequality, discrimination, and poverty.

The UN-Habitat Assembly is a universal body composed of the 193 member states of the United Nations and convenes every four years.
