Statement from HUD Secretary Julián Castro on the President's Immigration Accountability Executive Actions

November 21, 2014

WASHINGTON - U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development Secretary Julián Castro issued the following statement today in support of President Obama's Immigration Accountability Executive Actions:

"President Obama's executive action on immigration is an important step toward fixing our broken immigration system. These are common sense ideas that will benefit 5 million individuals and their families, and have a long lasting and positive impact on our economy.

Our nation was founded on the principles of hard work, opportunity, and playing by the rules; these executive actions will help those who have abided by these principles.

These executive actions also help secure our nation by strengthening our border, and prioritizing the deportation of felons, not families.

House Republicans should do the right thing, and embrace the bipartisan support of the comprehensive immigration reform bill passed by the U.S. Senate more than a year and a half ago, and bring the bill to a vote."
