Through innovative housing programs and policies, as well as the revitalization he encouraged and the investment he facilitated, the Mayor transformed our city and its neighborhoods, creating a housing model for the nation. He understood that a city's strength and its future are intricately tied to its residents and their homes and that only by building communities comprised of affordable housing that strengthens and diversifies can we truly realize our promise and prosperity. We will always remember the contributions of one of the nation's greatest housing innovators and advocates."
