STATEMENT FROM HUD SECRETARY SHAUN DONOVAN
ON DEPUTY SECRETARY MAURICE JONES

WASHINGTON - U.S. Housing and Urban Development (HUD) Secretary Shaun Donovan issued the following statement today after Virginia Governor-Elect Terry McAuliffe nominated HUD Deputy Secretary Maurice A. Jones to be the Commonwealth of Virginia's Secretary of Commerce and Trade:

"From the day he started at HUD, Maurice Jones has been a tireless advocate for the agency's 8,000 employees. From managing the agency's response to the sequester to planning for and responding to the government shutdown in October, Maurice's leadership has been critical.  His bi-weekly webcasts, field office visits, staff meetings and negotiations have provided increased transparency and accountability for the agency through difficult circumstances.  Governor-Elect McAuliffe's nomination today means that Maurice gets to go home to his family and his home state, where his public service career began. While HUD is losing a trusted leader and valued member of our family, we know that Maurice's commitment to serve will be put to good use in Virginia. I wish Maurice the best of luck and congratulate Governor-Elect McAuliffe on his selection."
