Secretary Fudge Statement on Derek Chauvin Guilty Verdict

Today's verdict affirms my faith in the American justice system. It tells us that, when the scales of justice are balanced, we can indeed be one nation under God-where all Americans, regardless of their skin color, receive equal treatment in the eyes of our law.

To be clear, this verdict does not change the fact that George Floyd should still be alive. Today is by no means the end of America's long overdue reckoning with our legacy of systemic racism.

Moving forward, we must remain steadfast in our efforts to reform our criminal justice system and advance racial justice across our entire society.

I hope that today's verdict offers all of us a measure of hope about the possibility of forging a truly fair and equal America.
