  Overview: HUD’s Strategic Plan

  The Department of Housing and Urban Development is developing its 6-year strategic plan for FY2001 - FY2006. The strategic plan is a requirement of the Government Performance Results Act, which is meant to turn government agencies into results-oriented organizations. As part of developing its strategic plan, HUD is looking for input from stakeholders on where it should focus resources over the long-term and how to measure successes in achieving its strategic goals. This consultation will focus not only on HUD’s long-term vision, but on performance reporting, including: what measurements would indicate success in the Department’s mission and how performance measurement can facilitate program assessment in light of HUD’s strategic goals and objectives. This consultation will include discussion of the Department’s broad strategic goals and objectives as well as the national indicators to be tracked from year to year.

You’ll learn how e-Government is shaping HUD’s future with emphasis economic development initiatives, such as Native eDGE, Neighborhood Watch, and the Multifamily Delinquency and Default Reporting System.
 
HOPE VI Case Management and Tracking

Case management and tracking is the bedrock upon which all self-sufficiency activities rest. Each HOPE VI grantee is implementing a case management system that will track all original HOPE VI residents regardless of whether they are returning to the original site.

Business development and job creation-particularly jobs targeted for community residents-is an engine for community revitalization and public housing reform. This panel will present approaches to economic development as part of the HOPE VI program to create a new culture of high expectations and economic independence for public housing residents.

This workshop will provide an overview of the comprehensive program HUD is sponsoring to promote community safety and reduce gun violence in all of the communities HUD serves. In particular, the workshop will discuss HUD’s successful work encouraging gun manufacturers to take responsible steps to reduce gun violence, HUD’s BuyBack America initiative, the Public Housing Drug Elimination Program, the communities for Safer Guns Coalition, and other efforts.

The mission of the Mississippi Home of Your Own (HOYO) Alliance is to form statewide coalitions made up of housing, finance, and disability organizations, led by individuals with disabilities, their families, friends, and advocates that will empower persons with disabilities to reach their dreams of owning and maintaining their own homes. Through HOYO’s holistic homeownership process, persons with disabilities are assisted in becoming more independent, more productive, and more included in their communities. This session will provide in-depth information on housing issues as they relate to the unique needs of persons with disabilities, such as experiential Home Buyer Education, collaboration for services, person-centered-planning, barriers to home ownership overcoming barriers, sources of financing, financial resources, non-traditional credit history, legal issues, post-purchase issues, foreclosure prevention, marketing, fair housing and advocacy. Specific case scenarios will be presented using audio-visual equipment. Join us in opening doors of homeownership to citizens with disabilities.

Service coordinators help housing residents--particularly elderly and disabled residents--obtain the services they need and want. This session will look at two different models for effective service coordination in two distinct multifamily housing developments. Information will be useful to service coordinators, management company staff, housing authority staff, and community service agencies.

This session will explore the steps required to successfully preserve affordable housing. Steps presented will include enacting appropriate state legislation which permits state to take an interest risk position, ways to establish trust among partners, and methods for arranging a variety of complex funding sources through to closing on multiple properties.

How can a PHA or property manager put together a successful Neighborhood Networks center? By building partnerships -- relationships between two or more organizations where all parties agree to work together. This session will help participants (1) identify goals, assets, and potential partners; and, (2) craft a strategy to create and sustain the partnerships.
