promote safety, security, and well-being, motivate residents and staff to
become involved in their community, and encourage residents to take ownership

It has long been understood that persons who
live in low income communities frequently do not have the same opportunities
for success, as compared to persons in higher economic classes. Recent statistics
however indicate that when direct and focused intervention is channeled
into these communities, the probability of success increases dramatically.
The key is in sustained intervention as well as emphasis on exposure, opportunity
and self-esteem, focusing first on basic needs and eventually leading to
higher individual needs. Young people need to loved, appreciated and motivated.
It is from these concepts that the hopes of success are ultimately realized
among youth in low income communities. |
