The HUD South Carolina Columbia Field Office participated in the Sumter County (SC) Community Development Corporation's annual Housing and Job Fair this summer which was attended by over 300 local area residents. Additionally, there were over 25 vendors representing local area employers, lenders, health providers and local, state and federal governments participating at the event as well. HUD staff manned a booth providing information on specific HUD/FHA single family insured loan programs and various other HUD housing related resources.

Larry Knightner, HUD South Carolina Field Office Director, addressed a gathering of over 100 attendees at the main forum session of the event. Knightner discussed HUD issues and programs and took questions from the floor. He also discussed the SC HELP (www.scmortgagehelp.com/) program along with other foreclosure prevention resources that are available in South Carolina.

The event was quite a success and provided citizens of Sumter and surrounding areas with much needed and useful information about home ownership preservation. The Sumter County Community Development Corporation sponsored and hosted the event which was very well attended.

The Sumter County (SC) Community Development Corporation's (www.housing.com/categories/sumter-county-community-development-corporation.html) annual Housing Fair began in 2005 as an event to inform the citizens of Sumter and the surrounding areas about the importance of homeownership and available services and programs that could assist them in acquiring that goal. As the event realized exponential growth on an annual basis over the years it became evident that job opportunities were as crucial to the participants as homeownership. In 2012, the event became known as the "Housing/Job Fair".
