Step 2: Leave a Calling Card

You need to give your audience something to remember you by -- A copy of your front page, a business card, or some other promotional item.

  • Ensure that when you speak to a group, they walk away with something in their hands to remind them of your website

  • Promotional items don't have to be expensive. You can buy some items for pennies, such as:
    • Refrigerator magnets
    • Bookmarks
    • Pencils
    • Post-it notes
    • Before every major meeting of your audience group, print off the front page, highlight the address and distribute to attendees.

  • But don't stop there!
    • Put a stack of bookmarks at the public library
    • Stick small posters with your web address on bulletin boards at grocery stores

  • The important thing is this: put your web address on everything you issue
    • Stationary
    • Business cards
    • Fax cover sheets
    • The sign in your window
    • The address in your local phone book
    • Advertising you put in the paper or on TV
    • T-shirts you give to people in your organization

  • Everywhere you put your address or phone number, you should include your web address

  • Put your web address on your voice mail message
    • For example: "We can't take your call right now, but you might want to check our website at www.hud.gov"

Be creative! Get that address everywhere you can.
