A "host" is a company that allows you to place your website on their server.

Check with your ISP

Most ISPs allow space for a small- to medium-sized website, so hosting may already be included as a part of your service agreement. This would be the easiest option, so you only have to deal with one service for both your interent access and hosting.

Free Web Sites with Logos/Advertising Required

Some organizations offering free web space in exchange for posting advertising on your page:

READ the service agreement before you sign up, and make sure that you "opt out" of all advertising that is not "family friendly".

Other Free Web Services

You can find lists of organizations offering free web space at:

  • Yahoo
  • Freewebspace.Net
  • http://freeweblist.freeservers.com/

How much web space is enough?

The presentation you see on the screen today is actually a website. There are:

    • 51 web pages
    • 8 graphic files
    • 7 Microsoft Word files
    • 1 Shockwave animation file

And the total size of the website is 9/10ths of a megabyte. So, with 20 megabytes, you can create a very large website if you are careful with the size of graphics.
