The first thing you'll have to do is find an Internet Service Provider (ISP). There are lots of options, but we offer one caution. READ the ISP's service agreement before you sign anything. Especially with free access, find out what you are liable for if you use the service for more hours than stated in the agreement. If you choose access with advertising, make sure to opt-out of advertising that is not "family friendly".

Free Internet Access

  • Freenets

Freenets are community-based organizations that give you access to the Internet for free or at very low cost. Sometimes service is limited to a certain number of hours per day. Not every city has a freenet.

  • Contact Your Local ISP for Internet Access
You should be able to find a list of local ISPs in your phone book. Since local ISPs are community-based, they may work a deal with your organization. For instance, you might be able to trade Internet access for a mention in your newsletters. Also, some local ISPs give away access to non-profit or religious organizations as a form of public service.

You can find a list of sites by going to Yahoo and searching for "Free Internet"

    The List

The List is a world-wide listing of ISPs, some who charge as little as $10 a month. Much of the terminology is technical, and the amount of information could overwhelm you.
