Rule 1: Define Roles
  • Running a website is similar to running a newspaper - you need an editor-in-chief, reporters, and someone to run the presses and distribution
    • Sometimes - in small organizations - one person carries out all the roles…but you still need to be sure you cover each one

  • Define roles upfront: Who sets policies? Who decides how the page is laid out? Who writes? Who edits? Who does the computer work? Who does the marketing? Most important: Who has the last word?

  • Create a job description for your web manager

    • Use HUD's job descriptions as a sample (found on Bookshelf 11 of HUD's online "Library")
