Rule 8: Don't Reinvent the Wheel

If you see something that works elsewhere, use it
  • If you see a design you like, borrow it
  • If you see a concept you like, imitate it
Don't waste your time duplicating what's already available on the web - if good information or services already exist, just link
  • Add value by evaluating sites and linking only to those sites that truly contribute something new/valuable
  • You do not need to ask permission to link to other websites (court cases have verified)
Feel free to "borrow" from federal sites--they're in the public domain
  • Be careful about other sites... assume they are copyrighted. Ask for permission to use text, graphics, etc.
